Finding North
Mail Club

A mail club about building and living a joyful, sustainable creative life.

Imagine a letter arriving in your mailbox every month for a whole year. A real envelope, waiting to be opened. You’ll find somewhere quiet to read it. Maybe at home, somewhere you can close the door. Maybe in a café with a notebook and a luxurious drink. Maybe early in the morning, or after everyone’s in bed.

Each letter is an invitation to step away from the noise and spend time with your creativity: who you are, how you relate to it, and how you want to move forward. How you’ll hold your centre, when life gets hard. These letters are for anyone who knows there’s something in them they want to nurture.

These letters are about finding your north—strengthening your creative compass, so you can return to yourself and your creative work with more ease.

Over the year, we’ll explore:

  • Waking up your creativity
  • Filling your well
  • Defining your creative values
  • Comparison, competition and self doubt
  • What rest means for you
  • Finding momentum
  • Writing through hard times
  • Everyday adventures and celebration

At the end of the year together, you’ll have been on a journey. You’ll have a stronger creative compass: a clearer sense of who you are, and the ideas you’ll come back to as you make your way through your work, and through life.

You’ll know where and how to locate your calm, your balance, and the joy you find in creativity. You’ll have practical tools, as well — exercises you can run whenever you need, to remind yourself of the way you want to live.

This is a story that only you can write.

Created by NYT bestselling author Amie Kaufman

I’m Amie Kaufman, and your letters are written and created by me.

I’m a New York Times, USA Today and internationally bestselling author. My multi-award-winning work has been translated into nearly thirty languages, and is in development for film and TV.  I’ve published more than twenty novels, and I’m in the last few months (!!) of a PhD in Creative Writing.

Just as importantly, I’ve spent the last fifteen years teaching and mentoring, guiding writers in just the way these letters do. They represent all the best advice I have to give, and I’ve put them together with so much love, and so much joy. I truly want them to feel like they’re from a friend who cares about you—because that’s what they are.

What you receive each month

Each month’s envelope will contain:

  • a letter from Amie
  • a worksheet
  • journalling prompts
  • a link to an audio version of the letter, read by Amie
  • something extra—perhaps a sticker, photo, a quote card, a bookmark, or something else entirely. Part of the fun is waiting to find out what it’ll be.

FAQ

Letters are posted in the first week of each month. We don’t use tracking, because it would dramatically increase the cost. In a world where almost everything is scheduled, it can be hard to have something out there, just winging its way toward you at its own speed. We encourage you to consider this a part of the experience! No matter when you join, your first letter will be posted at the start of the following month. This may mean it takes a few weeks for your first letter to be sent.

The letters are only available as a set of twelve. This is because they’ve been crafted as a series, to take you on a journey over the course of a year.

You’re good. You’ll receive the first of the twelve letters when you join, and then one letter a month over the course of the year. Your year begins when you sign up.

They do not. If you’re after help finding a literary agent, or want to know how to publish your book, these letters aren’t what you’re after. They’re about your development as a creative and a writer.

I expect that your craft will improve over the course of a year, as you get more firmly in touch with your creative compass, but these letters aren’t craft lessons aimed at specifically improving your prose. If that’s what you’re after, consider listening to my free podcast, Amie Kaufman on Writing. It’s got more than forty free writing lessons!

Absolutely. At checkout, you can enter your details in the billing session, and the recipient’s address as the mailing address.

We post in the first week of each month, so make sure you let us know your new address by the end of the previous month. We’ll change your address for all future mailings. You can email us at mailclub@amiekaufman.com

Sometimes mail can take a while, especially when it’s international. If your letter hasn’t arrived six weeks after the monthly mailing date, let us know and we’ll send you a replacement. Our limit is two replacement letters over twelve months. You’re welcome to change your address at any time, if you’re having trouble receiving letters at your current address – just email mailclub@amiekaufman.com

We’re a small business, and we want to work with them. Our aim is to source everything—paper, envelopes, art and extra inclusions from small businesses whenever we can. The logo for the club was created by my friend Tessa Elwood. The photography you see on this page is from Apple and Tree Photography. Letter illustrations are by my husband, and you’ll probably hear back from him if you email us. (He’s also great at stuffing envelopes. What can’t he do?)

Wherever we can, we use recycled paper, and all paper we use is FSC Certified, which means it’s sourced responsibly, supporting sustainable forest management.

We’ll never use AI in creating these letters. Not for words, not for art, not for anything. This is a human-to-human endeavour.
