Internet, I have news! Today you are due my usual BTW post, full of random information about my week, a competition, a writing link, a link to heaven knows what quirky thing I’ve enjoyed recently, as well as some meandering about whatever I’m reading at the moment.
You will not be getting that today! About fifteen minutes ago I finished THE JENKINS JOURNALS, so instead you get me running around in circles, semi-hysterical with relief.
On November 19th I had written 12,022 words. Things were not looking good.
Tonight, one week later, my WIP is complete at 37,815 words.
I have had a ton of support from you guys here, from other writers on Twitter and from my ever-gorgeous CP, Meagan Spooner, who has this very day started her next book. did I mention she has full requests her very first week of querying? She’s just that awesome.
Here is a little taste of the book–click click for a larger version!
Will I win NaNoWriMo this year? I’m not sure. While I was writing today, I suddenly paused to scribble 18 words on the back of my outline. I think they might be what’s coming next. I’m going to sleep on it and think.
In the meantime, tell me your news! How is your writing going, whether you NaNo or not? Party drink of choice? Plans for the weekend?

Oh wow! That’s an incredible burst of words in such a short space of time. Can’t wait to see how many your write tomorrow. And the next day. And the next. And the last.
Eep, me neither. I’m all done now, and the next book was going to be historical–I don’t think one Wikipedia page is going to provide adequate research! My eighteen words of idea are being bumped up the queue instead, and I’m going to pants it for a little and see what comes. Stand by!
congrats! Must feel good! I’m not nano-ing.
WIP is going well, though! It’s American thanksgiving so kids are home and a lot of eating is going on.
We made our own Thanksgiving dinner here (we have Meg Spooner as our resident American to tell us if we’re getting it sort of right) and are currently living off leftover sandwiches, which I understand is an important part of the tradition.
That’s fantastic! Well done. I have 5,000 left to go to reach 50,000 but I don’t think I’ll have actually finished the book
Still nice to be on the home stretch!
Congrats again.
That was me last year–I got two wins, the first when I hit 50K, the second when I actually finished! I’ve got you on my buddy list and I’m cheering for you!
oh that is cool, my Wips are going well Im still writing at snail pace but i figured its better than nothing.
And if I recall correctly, you’re not supposed to be writing at all, right? I never stop when I’m supposed to either. I agree, though–whatever pace you can manage is always better than nothing.
Congrats!! That’s so exciting!
Thank you! I am dancing a little bit. Got to dance the dance before I plunge into revision and the I-hate-this-book blues!
Congratulations on finishing! Whoo hoo! And you’re even a few days early. Best of luck winning NaNo! Thanks the sneak peek. I love the word jumble.
I love them too, I think they make me look far more clever and artistic than I actually am! Deighted to have the book finished, and allowing myself to ignore the very concept of revision for a little while.
Congrats! Very Motivations! And, I love the names you seemed to have chosen for your characters
Thank you! All old fashioned names for me this time–Eva, Danny, Ben, Poppy and Great Aunt Beatrice, who kicks butt on behalf of awesome great aunts everywhere.
I’m so proud of you! That’s impressive! There is no feeling like the feeling you get when you finish a book. You have my vote for NaNo. Wait, can we vote?
No feeling like it, as demonstrated by all the cavorting on Twitter last night! And sure, we can vote! NaNo’s whatever we want it to be!
Congrats! I finished my novel too! My goal for NaNo was just to finish, and I did- early! My novel at about 94,000 words. I never thought I could write that much. Doesn’t it feel nice?
It feels awesome! I am still dancing little jigs spontaneously. My first two novels, I think it felt a little like a fluke. Third time’s a charm–I think some part of my brain has worked out that I can actually do this!
Yay! Congrats! I’m not NANOing, but it sure is fun cheering everyone else on. Good luck with the last few days of the month!
Thank you! It would have been a pity if you *were* NaNoing this year, with your husband home for Thanksgiving finally! I just saw your tweet about his favourite childhood movie–it scared me half to death, but I think I like him!
I must admit, I searched and searched until I could find “llamas” in that Wordle. (Psst… The llamas are in the gazebo…)
You already have all my congratulations, mostly when I raced in at whatever-o-clock to give you a hug when you finished. Am still SO proud and impressed that you finished, and with time to spare!
Am so looking forward to what you come up with for these last 10,000 words.
Bwahaha! For those wondering, Meg and I have been noticing that with phrases like “the llamas are in the gazebo”, it’s possibly I’m on some governmental watchlists. Those have to be codewords, right?
9,245 words remaining as I type this, three days to go. Easy!
So in one week you wrote 25,793 words (I used a calculator to work that out). I’m well impressed. Congratulations on finishing with days to spare. You’ve made me even more determined than ever to join you all next year.
(I used a calculator to work it out as well.)
If I might be so immodest as to admit it, I’m a bit impressed as well. For me, it’s all in the outlining, though. I usually write about half the book, then outline the second half in detail before I continue. Once you’ve got that outline to work from, it’s a lot easier to race through.
I would love to have you for a NaNo buddy next year, looking forward to it!
Working hard at catching up on Nano. 10K to write in 4 days, that’s definitely manageable. Only 2.5k a day. I better get started!
Definitely, definitely manageable. Take a peek at my last post about how to get words on the page, if in doubt–you can doooooooo it!
Wow! I’m impressed! You really turned it on the last half of the month. I’ve never participated in NaNoWriMo, but am gearing myself to get back at it (writing books rather than just blogs) right after Christmas!
So long as you’ll be writing both! Not that I would ever hope your kitchen remodel went badly, as such, but if you were forced to blog some delicious slices that could be made and left to set in the fridge… I would come to terms with it, you know?
Fabulous!! Congratulations!! I love when you finish a novel, the feeling is so powerful! I’ve been writing quite a bit lately, I completed my Nano and started a new project for a publishing house that I’m hoping pans out!!!
Oh, wow, you have so much on the boil! You’re right, the feeling is awesome. I don’t care about the revision coming, I don’t care about all the stuff that will need to happen next, I just enjoy it while Ic an! Fingers crossed on the publishing house project!
Congratulations! I didn’t participate, but rooted for all of you who did.
Without cheerleading, I would have died. Who am I kidding? I have 6K to go and I’m *still* leaning on the cheerleading.
Hey, I just posted an award for you over at my blog;)
Get out, you’re the sweetest! Thank you!
Congrats! You must feel like you’ve run a marathon.
That is exactly how I feel, except for the bit where I get to drink wine afterwards. I’m not sure because I’ve never run a marathon, but I’m pretty sure they don’t let you do that when you’re actually run. I like our kind of marathon better.
Yay for your complete manuscript! That’s so awesome.
This morning I crossed the 50k line with my nano project. There’s still more story to write, but wow, what a way to get going.
Talk about a rocket of a head start!
I’ll be finishing in about 3 hours if all goes to plan–with a whole hour to spare before midnight, easy!
Congratulations on finishing! That is fantastic news. Who cares if you win, you finished your story. Congratulations, also, to Meagan. Did you help her with queries? What were the sixteen words, I wonder. I have so many ideas for my next book, I’m not sure which to start. Does having an agent help you decide that?
